A discussion was held
with stakeholders on the status of the construction of the Grand Ethiopian
Renaissance Dam on Wednesday.
The workshop will be
finalized soon after four years, he said. The deadline for the dam to commence
and the start of the project is over.
In its discussion, the
Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Energy said the project was delayed due to
lack of detailed research and that the delays in the dam cost the country 800
million dollars a year.
Know overall, the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance has
now reached 65 percent.
Following the death of The
head of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam Engineer Semegnewu a new of General Manager of the Grand
Renaissance Dam so called Engineer
Kefele Horo was appointed a few month ago.
General Manager, Kefele
Horo, said that the Renaissance Dam project, the construction of the dam, and
the future of the construction of the dam have been answered, have responded to
questions from the journalist.
According to the General
Manger the main reason for the delay:
The main reasons for the
slowdown of the construction of the structure are the fact that the mechanical
and steel industries are unable to keep their time, according to the general
manager.
The Ethiopian Electric
Power Corporation (EEPCo), which gave these contracts to the Metals and
Engineering Corporation (METC), said that following the project's delay and the
lack of public trust on the project, the government had abrogated the contract
with METC for nearly a month and concluded negotiations with internationally
renowned contractors and contractors who have started work.
"When the jobs were
accomplished in previous agreements, No one would take responsibility for one's
work. So, we are negotiating with the German and French companies in the
presence of experienced hydroelectric operators on a global scale to accelerate
the work. Some have already started to work. '
"We are also talking
about a contract with German (Vu-Zuh) and France (Geo Alsem) Companies for the supply of Turbine-generator and installation of it.
According to Engineer Kefele
there is no way to reconstruction of dam,
but it is said that the works undertaken by a foreign company are sufficiently
inspected and corrected.
'' We offer all Metal
Products Contracts to a foreign company. An external company will take these
terms with the same assurance of quality as ever before. " said the
Manager
There are already
waterproof fittings and water gutters made by metals factories. There are also other
planted on the wall. Are these properly installed? Are these rights? They have
an obligation to check. If something is missing or faulty, these will be corrected,
but it will not be rebuilt, "said Engineer Kefele.
According to the general
manager, the Renaissance Dam had not had a properly plan timetable.
However, he is confident
that the dam will be completed four years later and that it can generate
energy.
'' This project has never
faced a budget problem. It will never face it. The government is giving
priority to the project, "said the general manager, adding that the dam
will be completed in a timely manner so that crucial jobs will be completed
before the dam is completed.
